We've seen a report that certain websites like CoinGecko, Etherscan, DexTools and probably others may have been targeted by some kind of attack. The attack is opening up a Metamask popup window trying to make you approve a bad contract that will most likely drain your entire wallet, therefore, in case of an unwanted Metamask popup, make sure you close all of the tabs in your web browser and as always, be careful about signing any permission/approval requested by any websites.
It doesn't affect everyone but in an abundance of caution everyone should be careful and make sure to read every MetaMask popup very carefully (or any other wallet).
